Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 13, 2026
SubZen ("we", "our", or "the app") is a subscription tracking app developed by BuiltByMak. Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains what data SubZen handles and how.
1. Data We Do NOT Collect
SubZen does not collect or store your subscription records on our own servers. We have no backend, no user accounts, and no advertising SDKs. We do not sell or share your data with third parties for advertising purposes, and we do not use Apple's advertising identifier (IDFA).
2. Data Stored On Your Device
Your subscription records, including names, costs, billing dates, notes, tags, payment-method labels, and website domains, are stored locally using on-device storage. The records themselves leave your device only if you explicitly enable iCloud backup. SubZen sends only the limited, coarse usage information described in the Analytics section below.
3. iCloud Backup (Optional)
If you enable iCloud backup in Settings, your subscription data is synced to your personal iCloud account using Apple's iCloud Key-Value Storage. This data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. You can disable iCloud backup at any time in the app's Settings.
4. Exchange Rates
SubZen fetches currency exchange rates from the Frankfurter API, a free public API backed by the European Central Bank. These requests do not include any personal or subscription data. Only standard HTTP metadata (IP address) is transmitted as part of normal internet communication.
5. Service Logos
SubZen may fetch service logos from Logo.dev to display icons for known subscription services. These requests contain only the service domain name and no personal data.
6. Analytics
Production versions of SubZen use Google Firebase Analytics to collect limited product-usage data. Development builds do not transmit analytics. We use this information to understand feature adoption, identify reliability problems, and improve the app. The controlled app events we send may include:
- Fixed screen names and feature interactions
- Coarse, predefined values such as subscription category, billing-cycle type, catalog or custom source, action surface, feature outcome, and reminder state
- Stable service identifiers for selections from SubZen's built-in curated catalog; custom subscription names and website domains are not included
- Bounded count ranges, such as a subscription-count bucket
- Coarse app configuration and status values: preferred display currency, whether iCloud backup and notifications are enabled, and whether the app has a premium or supporter entitlement
- Support-purchase product identifiers and controlled support levels
We do not send custom or user-entered subscription names, costs, billing dates, notes, tags, payment-method labels, website domains, subscription or notification record identifiers, search text, dynamic route identifiers, or raw error messages to Firebase.
Firebase may also process automatically collected app and device information, such as app version, device type, operating-system version, app-instance identifiers, session information, and coarse location derived from network information. SubZen does not associate analytics with an account or use analytics for advertising. For more information, see Firebase Privacy and Security and Google's Privacy Policy.
7. Notifications
SubZen uses local notifications to remind you of upcoming billing dates. These notifications are scheduled entirely on your device and are not sent through any external push notification service.
8. Third-Party Services
SubZen uses the following third-party services:
- Google Firebase Analytics - for controlled, non-content product analytics in production builds, as described above
- Frankfurter API - for exchange rates (no personal data sent)
- Logo.dev - for service logos (no personal data sent)
- Apple iCloud - only if you enable iCloud backup
9. Children's Privacy
SubZen is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date.
